| Q: Which
ceiling fan manufacturer do we carry? A: We carry ceiling fans by Casablanca, Emerson, Fanimation, Minka Aire,Monte Carlo, Hunter, Craftmade, Matthews-Gerbar, and Quorum. Q: What are the differences between the motors? A: There are basically 2 types of motors, torque-induction and direct drive. Torque-Induction motors typically consist of a stator(center shaft of motor) connected to a rubberized flywheel for vibration and noise absorbtion. Casablanca has the XLP-2000, Emerson has K55, and Fanimation has FDK-2100. These motors are considered to be the best in the industry offering years of quiet noise-free and vibration- free operation. Direct drive motors operate with the body rotating around with the blade mounts attaching directly to the body. There's no rubberized parts for vibration absorbtion. These motors are a trade off of performance for cost (less expensive). Q: What's the difference between number of blades and blade pitch? A: The larger the span, and the greater the pitch the more air a ceiling fan will move. Manufacturers take into account how much load does a certain span and pitch create, and use a motor according to the force necessary to move. What this means to you as the consumer is that you simply need to choose the style you'd like, all the rocket science stuff's been taken care of by the manufacturers. QHow high should my ceiling fan be from the ground? A: As a general rule of thumb, it is ideal for you to have the fan hanging 8 to 9 feet off the ground. This is not always the case though. For some with ceilings that are 16 feet and higher, some manufacturers make 72 inches the longest downrod they manufacture. Having a ceiling fan suspended at the 10 feet mark of a 16 ft high house leaves a ceiling fan hanging like a UFO, in this case, the 8 to 9 feet off the ground rule does not apply. |
